This Sunday commemorates two events at once. It is, firstly, to the solemn entry of Jesus into Jerusalem where he was cheered by a crowd waving palm branches. Moreover, this Sunday commemorates Christ's Passion and his death on the cross.
In Southern Europe and Quebec, are still used palm branches, as well as in some sub-Saharan countries including Côte d'Ivoire.
In France... usually boxwood, sometimes the laurel, the olive tree in Provence.
In Alsace and Germany... boxwood mixed Katzenpfötchen, a plant forming a rod of wood decorated with small spheres fluffy.
West Indies... leaves of cycads revoluta, known as "twig".
In Britain... the goat willow.
In the Netherlands... boxwood. Children have also confectionnent a cross of twigs.
In Poland... small willow branches.
In Russia... small willow branches as well.
In Turkey... olive branches.
In Armenia... crowns are made of small branches of weeping willow.
In Vietnam... coconut leaves.
In other countries have used the yew or fir.
